TALK2US – First Chat on Chemistry all About You

inGenious chats are back for the new school year with TALK2US, a brand new series of online discussions which will enrich your chemistry classes.

Teachers and their students are invited to meet experts and find out new insights directly from the chemical industry thanks to the alliance of APPE (Association of Petrochemicals Producers in Europe), CEFIC (European Chemical Industry Council) and EPCA (European Petrochemical Association).

The series include 4 chats and associated mini competitions open to students aged between 13 and 21 years. Do not miss the first appointment with EPCA on 25 October from 2.00 to 3.30 PM, and register in the teacher community

To participate in the chat you need to register in advance as only 25 classes will be admitted to join and slots will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Then you will need time to prepare with your class and get ready to meet experts, discuss with them and with other classes from all over Europe, and try to win the competition.

The first TALK2US chat is promoted by EPCA and run by two experts from the Young EPCA Think Thank (YETT): Aniouta Belevitch (from Total Europe) and Wouter Bleukx (from INEOS). Their profiles and background materials to prepare for the chat are already available in the Community area of inGenious.

The event will focus on Chemistry: all about you, how chemistry plays a central role in our everyday lives, more than we can even realise. The title refers to the video produced by EPCA, and globally awarded (from New York to Cannes) for its powerful expression of how chemistry makes our reality work and provide access, for people all over the world, to water and food, energy, clothing, health care, media and communication.

The video and accompanying teaching materials have recently entered the inGenious catalogue of activities for schools, and you will have now the opportunity to put them into practice and better understand how to implement them in your chemistry lessons (For those who cannot join the live event, all materials and recording from the discussions will remain publicly available on the website).

Share with us your lessons learned and win Amazon vouchers (for students and their teachers): a mini competition will be launched at the end of the chat and remain open for four weeks.

Students will have to explain the following points:

• how the chat fitted into their classes
• how it broadened their horizons
• what they learned from the experience
• how they could implement the learned lessons in their lives

And express their creativity by identifying for each project: a title, an “image” (a photograph and/or a drawing) and a presentation (video, Power Point or simple text document).

• TALK2US chats are promoted by Xperimania, now at its fifth edition, the project dedicated to secondary school classes and to boost young people’s interest in chemistry and physics.

• inGenious teacher of the month, Carlos Cunha, share with us his experience with Xperimania.

• Stay tuned with us not to miss next appointments!
